Mr. Mennes began his insurance career in 1977 with Lansing B. Warner Insurance Group after graduating from Loyola University of Chicago with a BS degree in Business. Mr. Mennes began his career in Excess and Surplus lines in 1981 when he accepted a position as Senior Casualty Broker of J. H. Blades. In 1983 he was recruited to manage a local E&S office which ultimately became American E&S. As Senior Vice President and Branch Manager Mr. Mennes responsibilities included marketing, underwriting, and claims administration for domestic and surplus lines companies and as designated coverholder on various contracts with Lloyd’s, and ILU companies.
In 1993 Mr. Mennes left AES to form Century Surplus Lines. CSL enjoyed substantial growth and profitability increasing premiums to excess of $30,000,000 when the corporation’s assets were sold to U.S. Risk in January 2000. Mr. Mennes stayed on as Executive Vice President and branch manager. In May of 2005 Mr. Mennes in partnership with Stephen Vallender formed IMS Insurance Market Solutions.
STEPHEN VALLENDER | executive vice president
Mr. Vallender has accumulated over 20 years experience in the marine and energy/surplus lines insurance industry. Beginning his career at C.T.Bowring Marine and Energy in London handling technical aspects of Energy package accounts. After 6 years with Bowring he joined Alexander Howden Limited an Alexander and Alexander Affiliate where he was employed for 2 years before joining Nicholls Pointing Energy Resources dealing primarily with independent U.S.Retailers and Wholesalers. In June 1991 he joined Atlantic Insurance and made the move to Houston as a casualty broker. After leaving Atlantic Mr. Vallender became one of the founding members of International Insurance Managers, Inc. which was later sold to U.S.Risk where he held the position of Vice President.
DON LUNDY | vice president – San Antonio
Don is a graduate of St. Leo’s University. He began his insurance experience in 1994 as a Life/Health agent for American General Life & Accident.
Don made the move to Property/Casualty in 1998 when he joined USAA where he worked as a front line underwriter for personal lines, automobile, inland marine, and personal renters coverages for US military personnel located in the USA and abroad.
In 2000, Don joined The Hartford where he began gathering his commercial lines experience. He took a big step forward in 2002 by joining Texas General Agency as a commercial lines underwriter where he underwrote multiple lines of business for retail agents throughout the state of Texas. While working in underwriting, Don was selected to design and implement a rating software system to be used by General Agents contracted to solicit automobile, property, and liability lines of business. When TGA was sold to Hallmark Financial Services in 2009, Don was promoted to Vice President of Property & Casualty where he oversaw production and service of the surplus lines business for the company and provided the upkeep of the rating software system. Don has been actively involved in AAMGA, NAPSLO, TSLA, and LSLA organizations over the past 5 years.
